to buckdog: govern yourself accordingly.

As a blogger who has been the target of a politician's legal threats, I can sympathize with the ridiculousness of Buckdog's situation.

UPDATE: Some politicians learn from their mistakes faster than others.

This is idiocy. The tape wasn't spliced, nor was it diced. If linking to the video constitutes slander, then she may as well launch a lawsuit against the entire interweb. Elizabeth May just sucks at conveying her thoughts in a slow and delibarate manner. I think we know what she meant to say, but that's totally different from what people hear. Lipstick on a pig included.

I mean, if she said "they (politicians) think Canadians are stupid", the bloggers would be saying: "Elizabeth May Claims to be the smartest politician".

First, it's alleged libel, not slander (though the letter to Buckdog seems to not get that right either). Next, it's not the linking which constitutes alleged libel, it's Buckdog's characterization of it.

All that being said, this is bad form by my former political party.

Good lord! John Bennett's writing is completely incoherent. How did he become a spokesman for the Greens?

I hope everyone who clamoured for May to be part of the leader's debate as some sort of free speech issue will crow just as long and hard at the Green Party's tactics in this instance. What a bunch of self-serving hypocrites.

I don't know. I've heard the clip several times, and I'm absolutely sure that IS what she said. She DID say "they (politicians) think Canadians are stupid". The problem is that she followed that up with "I fundamentally agree with that". Now, in context, she (pretty darned obviously) either meant disagree, or, that she agrees with the premise that most politicians think Canadians are stupid.

I think the only people who could honestly listen to/ watch the tape and conclude that Elizabeth May was calling Canadians stupid are people who really desperately want Elizabeth May to have called Canadians stupid.

But wishing doesn't make it so.

That said the apparent response by the Greens is idiotic, so there's that.
