vote for monte.

With Mike Duffy gone to greener pastures in the land of patronage, now is the perfect time for a Westerner to take the reigns of CTVs On the Hill.

Vote for Monte Solberg!

Ugh Dave - Monte would be even more openly pro-Conservative with his bias then Duffy was. No thanks.

Why do you say that? I think he'd probably do a decent job.

Plus, it would be nice to have someone with a different regional perspective on Canadian politics hosting a national show. Canada is much more than Ontario.

C'mon Dave, you're seriously asking me that?

It has nothing to do with Canada or Ontario - it has everything to do with political bias. I've read his editorials in the Sun chain of newspapers that he does, and they nauseate me. If CTV wants a host that eschews one side of the political spectrum and is openly hostile or combative to anything else, plus a guy that will spin anything favourably towards the Harper government, then Monte is definitely their guy.

If they want someone who will be a tad more balanced, then they should pick an actual journalist. I've favoured Kady O'Malley, but David Atkin for me would be a close 2nd.

I always liked Monte and would certainly like to see him land a media gig somewhere. He had a radio show before entering politics, didn't he?

At least his bias would be up front.

Monte Solberg is a great choice. He's a straight shooter.

Someone with an honest opinion that gives it is much more valuable than someone that attempts to offer the delusion of having no bias.

What do past political affiliations have to do with the media anyway?

Oh, wait, sorry...

The regional origin of news correspondents holds little interest for me, as does whether their bias is subtle or blunt.

However, as demonstrated with today's Sun editorial from Monte about "change we can believe in" as related to Obama's change (he opposes Obama of course), Solberg's "straight shooting" does not equal in-depth critique.

It's of the Limbaugh/Franken variety of political comment, shallow and ideological without defense.

Why not vote for Craig Chandler? He'd have an interesting show.
