Edmonton's new Ward Map for the proposed twelve-ward/single-member ward system have been released and will be discussed at the April 15, 2009 City Council meeting.

More commentary coming soon. Thoughts?

Well, it's probably gerrymandered to protect incumbents from having to run against one another, but that's just an uninformed, cynical guess.

Is the southern boundary of Ward 8 Whyte Avenue? That's a mistake.

Whyte Ave is only the border of ward 8 east of 104 Street; west of 104 Street, the boundary is 70/72/71 Aves (which mean it includes Belgravia, McKernan, and Queen Alex). The southern bits of Whyte east of 104 aren't very much like the southern bits west of 104, character-wise, so I think the division makes sense.
