from the dragons' den to under the dome?

Insight into Government is reporting talk that Brett Wilson, co-founder of First Energy Capital and a panelist on the CBCs the Dragons' Den is getting ready to step forward as a leadership candidate if Premier Ed Stelmach fares poorly in the November 6-7 PC leadership review.

I originally heard this rumour in the spring, but with the PC leadership review fast approaching, the thought of a party leader like Wilson may influence the votes of some party delegates to November convention.

Wilson can be found on twitter at @WBrettWilson.

Wow...that would be interesting for sure.

The very fact that Brett has come forward in this fashion tells me he's a complete neophyte!

Given the current win of the WAP in Calgary Glenmore, this is only going to create a messy leadership review and division in a party that simply can't afford it.

If the PC's, Libs and NDP were smart, they would be taking out WAP memberships and voting for the person who is NOT the frontrunner to ensure their demise!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best laugh of the day. Brett Wilson as the new Peter Pocklington. And Sarah Maclachlan as our first lady, out there promoting the oilsands to the world. Oh, wait a minute...

Calgary oil guys don't get politics. That's a proven fact. Ed will be fine, but I'm sure the Alberta Party, Social Credit or the WAP would welcome Brett with open arms. Not sure how they'd feel about Sarah.

Go Stelmach. said...

Learn your place Calgary. Fall in line.

Aw, poor Calgary. Those sorry bastards never get anything from this government. Don't the rest of you Albertans realize that it is Calgary's God-given right to have the Premier. Now, sit down and shut up.

It is so interesting for the proStelmach fans to stick their head in the sand and say "every thing is alright"....THe only thing that will ward off the Wildrose movement will if the Conservatives change their leader and replace him with someone with Leadership qualities. Someone like Morton would certainly bring in the disengaged Conservatives and possible stop the Conserative Bleeding.

THe Leadership review will show a significant rift in the party and the knives(already out) will dig deeper and the farmer will ride into the sunset with his head between his....

Its time for the small "c" Conservatives to CAptialze of follow the fate of Harry.

Is it too late for Bob Barker to save the Conservative Seals. It is inhumane to have them sit behind Stelmach and clap at random :)

I think Brett Wilson would be a great candidate. The PC party, despite it's electoral stranglehold, has a duty to front a refreshingly visionary leader. No one that ran in the last leadership race meets that description, and so I'm quite excited to see a name like this coming forward.

If Brett Wilson decides to run, then CBC - our public broadcaster - would have to stop airing the Dragon's Den shows that he's in. He has a HUGE advantage over other candidates because of the airtime he gets from that TV show...worth thousands of dollars of PR.

Uh, or Brett would need to leave the show.... Why is everyone so excited about this? What does this guy know about anything? What does anybody really know about him? Who's behind him? If he's allowed (?) this idea to trickle out, presumably he has some backers? Or are they too scared to go public? I can't see it happening.

No doubt he's looking to serve the interests of Calgary 's oilpatch better from the premier's chair than he was able to at First Energy. Alberta is a ridiculous backwater.

People shouldn't assume that just because Mr. Wilson made some of his money in oil that his interest in being Premier is strictly royalty related. This could be Alberta's version of Danny Williams, a self made man who is willing to temporarily set his business interests aside to provide better leadership for the province he got rich in.

Maybe...
