let's not lose another generation of nurses.

During the last round of major government cuts to health care in the 1990s, I've been told that Alberta lost entire cohorts of graduating nurses who moved to other provinces in search of stable jobs in the health care sector. With the current hostile environment in the health care sector, Alberta's future nurses are speaking out in a media conference tomorrow.

As the main organizer of the student news conference held this morning at the Legislature we'd like to thank you for your interest. If you'd like any more info from me about the nursing shortage, our key messages, or future plans for more events, please let me know as we'd love to have your continued support. This isn't just about our jobs - we're also citizens and users of the health care system. Unfortunately we know all too well what this shortage and new cuts is going to cost all Albertans, and it is our professional and ethical obligation to advocate for our patients. I really wish people would realize that this isn't 'nurses complaining'. In order to keep our licenses to practice, we MUST voice our concerns. Its too damn bad AHS's Code of Conduct seems to have successfully muzzled so many important voices.
