a message to calgary-glenmore voters.

Dear Calgary-Glenmore voters,

From 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM today, you have the opportunity to vote in the by-election that will choose your next MLA.

In the last general election only 41% of you voted.

You've probably heard a lot about how tens of thousands of Canadians have died to protect your democracy and your right to vote. I would reiterate this point, but because it didn't faze 59% of you during the last election, it probably won't faze you now.

So, to get to the point, please don't embarrass Alberta with a low voter turnout today. You don't have good excuse, so get out and vote.

Sincerely,

Dave

Candidate Information
Eric Carpendale
Diane Colley-Urquhart
Antoni Grochowski
Paul Hinman
Avalon Roberts

*sigh* The sad part is - those that ignored voting last time likely aren't the type to be reading a blog like yours anyway ...

Who cares if they vote. Democracy is voluntary.

Agreed - go vote.

I agree with Nastyboy, the fact that 60% of them choose not to vote is just that, their choice.

Looking through that collection of, ah, "candidates" I can't say I blame the 60%. I expect it will be more like 75% no show for this by-election.

How sadly cynical and underinformed must one be to think there is now choice, based on any criteria in Calgary-Glenmore. What is it they say about democracy? Oh yes, "use it or lose it." Oops, perhaps it's too late. Personally, I'm one to be swayed by a yellow brochure I got in the mail last Friday.

That should have read "no choice" Dang I hate when the fingers go into auto pilot. Let's try that again:

Looks like about 40.5% of eligible voters cast a ballot. I guess that's not too bad, for a byelection in Alberta - the 2007 byelection in Calgary-Elbow netted slightly less than 35%; Drumheller-Stettler, same year, less than 33%.

But... so what if they vote or not? As Nastyboy said above, it's really their choice.

Get over yourself. If going out and supporting one group of lying jackeasses who have managed to convince you that they're not as bad as those other lying jackasses, makes you feel all warm and self-righteousy then good for you.

There are many of us who are informed and look at the parties, candidates and system and simply say "no thank you".
