NDP: 19 - 1 = 18

Looks like Ms. Desjarlais will be joining the likes of Ms. Parrish, Mr. Kilgour and Mr. O'Brien in the realm of Independent MP's.

If she disagrees with the party on a primary policy position it probably makes the most sense for her to run independently. The issue of same sex marriage was one of the lynch pin views of the party (like maintaining public health care is now). So Ms. Desjarlais will probably be better able to espouse her own views (and hopefully the views of her constituents, if they agree with her) than if she remained with the NDP.

Strangely, the Voltaire's Bastard Party has never yet lost an MP to discord over a policy position.

She could have simply gone quietly into that good night, but noooo, she had to stick around and split the NDP vote next time...

I don't know. Niki Ashton might just be a great candidate after all.

It might just be that the SSM had nothing to do with it - the riding association may simply believe that Niki Ashton is a better candidate.

I guess she dispels the myth that the NDP is the party that nominates second-year philosophy majors all the time. [/snark]

Shucks, I never heard THAT myth...we usually get hit with the "union hacks" myth.

How many members of the CPC can speak 2 languages, let alone 8. How many eve CARE to learn Cree.

Just saying, she looks like a good candidate. Much better than my MP, CPC Wunderkind and 25-year-old never-actually-finished-my-degree Pierre "Media Whore" Poilievre.

Terrific! One more point in our basket!
