ignignokt and err strike again!

I have to say that this is one of the greatest and most bizarre stories I've ever heard...

Two held after ad campaign triggers Boston bomb scare
POSTED: 1447 GMT (2247 HKT), February 1, 2007

BOSTON, Massachusetts (CNN) -- Authorities have arrested two men in connection with electronic light boards depicting a middle-finger-waving moon man that triggered repeated bomb scares around Boston on Wednesday and prompted the closure of bridges and a stretch of the Charles River.

Meanwhile, police and prosecutors vented their anger at Turner Broadcasting System Inc., the parent company of CNN, which said the battery-operated light boards were aimed at promoting the late-night Adult Swim cartoon "Aqua Teen Hunger Force."
We are the mooninites and our culture is advanced beyond all that you can possibly comprehend with 100% of your brain...

I know it may be politically incorrect to say but I don't care: are the people of Boston idiots? How could you have looked at that and thought it was a bomb?! It's god-damn Lite-Brite!!!

It's two inches thick and powered by four D-cell batteries and hung out in the open (most were at eye level). It's basically a battery powered skate shop sticker on a stop sign.

Seriously. They were in something like nine other cities and not one complaint was issued.

Context is everything!!! Just because you're paranoid does not mean "they are not after you."

Boston, you have to remember, was the origin of the 9/11 flights. Its gotta be a city that is super-sensitive and a "blame" target...that is if you can't blame Canada...which is still believed to be the origin of the 9/11 terrorists in the minds of many Americans.

Nine other cities, as part of the same promotion/prank, did not overreact. That is a big part of the story.

I think Bostonians should take this in stide and as reassuring evidence that it's emergency response system works. It sure had better responses and outcomes than "the systems" reaction to Katrina. Remember Dubya saying "Brownie is doing a great job?" (sic)

It was an expensive system "rehearsal" but most over reactions(think WMD) are usually very costly.

It was sure not as elegant as Orson Wells' radio "show"..."War of the Worlds." It is in the same spirit and to my mind to the same effect.

The viral nature of the blogosphere is going to see it used as one of the primary vehicles of misuse and mischief - and mayhem.

Urban myth of alligators in toilets are going to give way to virtual myths on the Internet that will cross cultures and cause chaos.

We need to ensure there are, intelligent, active, authentic, authoritative and respected Blogger voices - that are not anonymous - as the antidote to the eventual consciousness infection of such virtual viruses.

Now if it was a giant, hopping, counting, robotic rabbit, then there would have been a reason to panic.
