She's kinda right.

The piece listed Bev Potter as the Medicine Hat Liberal candidate. Do you know if she's been nominated yet? Or would they just be referring to the fact that she ran the last two times, do you suppose?

Never mind ... just answered my own question from a Calgary Herald story:

Liberal Senator Grant Mitchell, an Alberta representative in the upper chamber and liaison to party Leader Michael Ignatieff, said the Grits haven't yet nominated any candidates in Alberta's 28 ridings but expect to have all hopefuls secured by the end of August.

I would not bet on Botter picking up Medicine Hat for the Liberals

Bud Olson only won as a Liberal 40 years ago because he had a long history as a popular Socred affiliated MP for the riding and he ran as a Liberal during Trudeau Mania.

Botter is no Bud Olsen and Iggy mania won't sweep anywhere in southern Alberta. She could not even come close to the NDP candidate in the last federal election.

I'd imagine that the 70% of the vote that Medicine Hat MP LeVar Payne earned in the 2008 election would make that riding one of the (25ish) strongest Conservative ridings in Canada.

While I was surprised to see that Bennett was in Medicine Hat, I can't imagine that it will be a priority riding for the LPC in the next election (though, in terms of long-term strategy, it isn't ridiculous for the LPC to try and build support in these kinds of ridings).

Bennett isn't horribly articulate, is she? Good for her for going to the Hat but dont the Liberals have a better MP envoy? A rural Ontario or Maritime MP?

Lavar has been making some positive impressions in the Hat as of late. He's made himself available for appearances at each small event in the area and presenting giant cheques on the news every other night.

Unless they find an illegal grow-op staffed with atheist hookers in his basement, . . . I'm pretty confident he's a lock.

She's the one that's nuts - the only thing 9 health boards does better than 1 is hiring unnecessary bureaucrats.
